Illuminated Birthday

Ornamental frame made with illuminated elements taken from "The Hours of Catherine of Cleves" made for Catherine of Cleves, Duchess of Guelders. Written and illuminated in Utrecht, The Netherlands, 1440.

Inspired by the lives of women in the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance, The Hours takes its name from the greatest illuminated manuscript in the world, The Book of Hours of Catherine of Cleves. While we are known for our fascination with the Victorian era and all its peculiarities, for this collection, we reached back a little farther in time.
